THE INTERVIEW

Talking about LegalShield with Terrell

“From conception to death, there’s gonna be legal problem. With LegalShield, it’s everything. Anyone who has rights, needs LegalShield and that’s everyone. From the small business standpoint, it’s about their history with accessing an attorney.”

Small business owners face real headaches when trying to hire attorneys. Most lawyers charge $200-500 per hour and want large deposits upfront before they'll even start working. For a small business watching every dollar, these costs can be impossible to budget for. Many owners also struggle to find attorneys who actually understand their specific business needs. The result? Many small businesses simply go without legal help until they're already in trouble – which is like waiting until you're sick to buy health insurance.

“It’s expensive for small business owners to have a personal attorney. Here’s what I would say to a small business owner: the reason why small businesses call us is because we save you money and give you a chance to address problems before it’s too late. Let us protect your business now before you need our services.”

He mentions that he has a friend that was leasing a barber shop. The real estate agent kept pushing him to sign and he wasn’t sure about that so he sent the contract to LegalShield. They found four errors in contract and saved her $2000 in headaches.

Through their innovative subscription model, LegalShield connects members with a network of dedicated law firms providing comprehensive legal services at a fraction of traditional costs. For small business owners especially, this means having on-demand legal counsel without the prohibitive retainer fees that often place legal protection out of reach.

As a small business owner, I am a witness to the valued membership of LegalShield. I use their services for document drafts and edits and unfortunately I had to pursue legal action recently. It’s my last resort and I really didn’t want to do it. But in business, there are people who do not hold up their end of agreements, and that isn’t right.

Tell us about your time serving in the U.S. Air Force:

“You’re trained to compete and be the best that you can be in the military. The environments train you. Everybody was ‘gunning for the go’. Everyone was competing hard. A lot of ‘A’ type personalities, competing against the best in each industry, in the world,” Terrell reflects on his time serving our country.

During his service in the U.S. Air Force, Terrell specialized in Aviation Resource Management – a role that developed his exceptional attention to detail and commitment. His responsibilities were critical to flight operations and crew safety. Terrell ensured that all aircrew members, whether pilots or support personnel, maintained current qualifications and adhered to strict training standards. This vital oversight helped officers perform at their best while maintaining the highest safety standards in one of the world's most demanding environments.

Communication was central to Terrell's military role, serving as a crucial link between flight crews and the control towers. He prepared pilots and crew members before missions by providing essential information about their upcoming flight routes and maintenance codes. The administrative side of his role involved managing detailed flight records and helping calculate flight pay for personnel.

How has the Air Force shaped you in business and life?

The military instilled four core values in Terrell that continue to drive his business success today. Leadership stands at the forefront – the Air Force taught him how to guide others effectively, a skill he now applies when helping clients navigate their legal journeys with confidence. Unlike the structured military environment where directions come from above, business success demands self-discipline.

Integrity forms the foundation of everything Terrell does. His military experience reinforced that operating without integrity inevitably brings negative consequences – what he simply calls "karma." This unwavering commitment to doing what's right, even when no one is watching, has built trust with his clients who know they can depend on his word and his work.

Perhaps most surprising is how the military developed his people skills. The charisma and communication abilities that help him connect with clients weren't just natural gifts – they were honed through years of active listening and clear communication in aviation management. These interpersonal skills have become second nature, allowing him to build relationships quickly and move faster in business by truly understanding his clients' needs.

Being able to communicate with people and active listening—Those skills have helped me in business and have helped me move faster in business. It’s bocame easier and second nature.

What’s it like running a large team as a Regional Manager for Jacksonville for a multi-national company?

Terrell is focused on building a winning team.

“I consider myself a coach rather than a boss,” Terrell shares more about training his team to reach a high level of performance. “High level of performance” means the business becomes easier as the person improves. His hands-on approach to teaching proper presentation skills has delivered impressive results—helping one team member jump from 1 sale to 6 sales in a single month simply by scheduling more meetings and refining their approach.

I have seen Terrell present several times and he is extremely good at what he does. He isn’t selling you or moving you to believe an empty dream. He genuinely cares and you can tell he has fun sharing about what his company can do for others.

I learned that Terrell makes personalized adjustments for each team member based on their unique strengths and challenges, ensuring everyone has the tools they need to succeed in their own way. With ambitious plans to hire 10 new people in the next three months, he's positioned to significantly expand his impact while maintaining the personalized coaching that has become his trademark.

As a business owner, curiosity and ambition should be ridiculously higher than the average person. I’m looking for the person who says ‘I knocked it out, what’s next?’

Right off the bat, I knew Terrell was a down-to-earth, happy guy. This guy is always smiling and laughing!

Meeting up at Happy Brew in San Marco was an eye-opener for me. I truly enjoyed getting to know Terrell and his business.

When asked about life beyond work, Terrell lights up discussing his family life. "I like to act crazy with my family and just have fun together," he shares. Their home buzzes with conversation, rarely needing TV or radio to fill the silence. With a mischievous laugh, he jokes that he was "put on earth to drive my wife crazy." Terrell enjoys a variety of recreational activities—from cards, dominoes, and board games to movies and social events. Despite his sociable nature, he equally values his downtime. "I need to recharge on my couch," he admits, appreciating those quiet moments to himself at home.

You can tell Terrell loves people. He says, “Everybody is my friend. I just haven’t met them yet.”
